Create/Edit Gmail Contacts on the Backflip
By default contacts you create on your phone are added to the MotoBlur group/profile.
They are also added the the group you are in when creating them. Tapping the groups heading (just below the notifications bar) when you viewing contacts will show a list of your groups. If you want a contact you enter on your phone to sync with your gmail account select the Google group.
You will now be viewing all of your gmail contacts. Tap the green plus (+) sign in the top right and add your contact. It will now sync with your gmail account.
If a contact does not display in the Google group it will not be synced with your gmail contacts
Google and MotoBlur show up in the groups list, but are treated differently than groups you create on the phone or in gmail. They are labeled profiles when viewing contact info (as in 'Linked profiles'). They do not show the edit group menu item when the menu key is tapped while viewing them.
I have not figured out a way to link/add an existing contact to the Google profile.
Automatically Syncing
To auto sync with your gmail contacts you must have the settings correct on your phone.
From a home screen:
- tap Menu key
- tap settings
- scroll down and tap Google synchronization
Make sure that:
- Background data
- Auto-sync
- Contacts
all have a green check mark by them.
Contacts Setting
Additionally there is a setting under in the contacts area. While viewing your contacts:
- tap the menu key
- tap more
- tap settings
Make sure that Google has a check mark next to it
Manually Syncing
If you do not have auto-sync on you can manually sync.
From a home screen:
- tap Menu key
- tap settings
- scroll down and tap Google synchronization
Once on this screen turn on:
- Background data
- Auto-sync
- Contacts
When you tap Contacts you will see a little spinner next to the check box. Once it goes away you can uncheck all of the boxes.
Turning off auto-sync means that any changes made in either your gmail page or on the phone will not sync until you do so manually
